AI Session Recap

Turn notes or a transcript into proposed outcomes, improvised creations, status changes, and recap records.

Session Recap is an AI feature, so it needs an active AI subscription (Companion or Power). Both levels get the full recap.

Opening the recap

After a session, open it and click Recap (you’ll find the button on the session and in the session list). The recap page is where post-session documentation happens.

A typical flow is: finish the game, mark the session Completed or In Progress, then open the Recap to capture what happened.

The core flow

  1. Write or paste your notes. Write or paste your summary in the Recap Notes tab. If you have a recording transcript, switch to the Transcript tab and paste it there (use Save Transcript to keep it). Analyze Notes uses the session text for AI suggestions.
  2. Click Analyze Notes. AI reads your text and works out what happened to your creations. This can take 15-30 seconds; you’ll see a “Still working…” indicator with an elapsed timer, and you can cancel if needed.
  3. Review the suggestions. They’re grouped by how confident the engine is (high / medium / low) so you can trust the obvious ones quickly and scrutinize the rest.
  4. Accept, edit, or dismiss. Approve suggestions one at a time, or select several and apply them in a batch.
  5. Add anything missed with Add Change, then click Complete Session.

What the engine suggests

The analysis comes back in a few flavors:

Creation outcomes

For creations you already have, the engine proposes an outcome - what happened to it this session. Each outcome has a type:

OutcomeMeaning
UsedThe creation appeared and was part of the session
Not usedYou’d prepared it, but it didn’t come up
ImprovisedYou made it up on the spot during play
ModifiedAn existing creation changed during the session

Outcomes can also carry a status change - for example an NPC going from neutral to deceased, allied, hostile, captured, freed, injured, revealed, or redeemed. Accepting the suggestion records the outcome (and applies the status note) for that creation.

Improvised creations

When your notes mention someone or somewhere that isn’t in your campaign yet - “the party met an old wizard named Aldric” - the engine offers to create it as a new creation. Save the ones worth keeping; they’re added with an “improvised” outcome so you remember where they came from. You can also quick-create a creation by selecting its name in your notes and choosing a type from the pop-up toolbar.

Status changes

A read-only summary of status shifts the engine noticed, shown for reference so you can act on them deliberately.

Recording changes manually

You don’t need AI for every change. Click Add Change to record an outcome by hand:

  1. Search for the creation
  2. Choose an outcome type (used / not used / improvised / modified)
  3. Add a short summary of what happened
  4. Optionally pick a status change from the quick-pick list

There’s also Mark All Planned as Used - a one-click way to log that everything you prepared actually showed up, when that’s the case.

What happens when you accept

Each accepted suggestion (or manual change) records an outcome on that creation. Those outcomes do real work beyond the recap:

So the recap isn’t just bookkeeping - it’s the data that makes the rest of Campaign Familiar’s AI smarter about your campaign.

Privacy and cost

Analysis uses your monthly AI allowance. Your notes and transcript go straight to the engine provider (Anthropic) for analysis - there’s no Campaign Familiar server in the middle and no API key for you to manage. If you’d rather not send a particular session through AI, record its changes manually instead.
