First campaign
Create your first Campaign Familiar campaign and choose the early details that make the dashboard useful.
Overview
A campaign is your container for everything related to a game you are running. Each campaign has its own set of NPCs, locations, items, encounters, and other creations. You can create multiple campaigns for different games or groups.
How to create a campaign
- Open Campaign Familiar and navigate to the Campaigns page
- Click New Campaign (the dialog that opens is titled Create Campaign)
- Enter a name for your campaign (for example, “Curse of Strahd” or “My Homebrew World”)
- Optionally enter a description (you can leave this blank)
- Optionally type your game system (free text - for example, D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e)
- Click Create
Your new campaign is now active, and you can start adding content.
Adding your first NPC
- From your campaign dashboard, click NPCs in the campaign nav (under Your World)
- Click New NPC (or Create Your First NPC from the empty state)
- Enter a name (for example, “Bartender Mira”)
- Fill in any additional details you want to track
- Click Save
You can also use AI generation to help create NPCs. See creating NPCs for details.

- Recent activity - Creations you have recently viewed or edited
- Upcoming sessions - Scheduled sessions
- Counts - How many NPCs, locations, and other creations you have made
Use the campaign nav to move between your creation types (Your World, Session Planning), notes and queries, and quick links like Quick Prep, the Connection Map, Campaign Intelligence, Campaign Search, and AI Suggestions.
